Belated merry Christmas to all and all the best in the new year...personally I'm glad to see the backside of 2016!!

I've recently acquired an Escher stone with label intact and in good shape. I would like to keep it legible, but am concerned that applying water surface and regular lapping will eventually cause it to deteriorate. Has anyone had experience in methods of preservation, eg coating with clear waterproof substance such as polyurethane?

I don't like shiny waterproofed labels. I try and keep the label dry. Not too hard if you don't use much water.
